Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
September 15 is set as the starting date for the month as it is important for many reasons. It is the independence anniversary for Latin American countries El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. From here onwards, the independence days of Mexico and Chile fall on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
During National Hispanic Heritage Month, CSC Sugar/Sugaright proudly recognizes the many contributions of our Hispanic associates as critical to the success of our company. As a leading importer of raw cane sugar from Latin America, the diversity, and shared cultures of our Trading desks in the US and in Mexico allow us to develop long-term relationships with our supplying mills. Our bi-lingual Logistics team is critical to ensuring a continuous supply of sugar to our trading partners and to our refineries. And of course, the many Hispanic employees at our refineries who contribute to a diversity of thought and are valued for their work ethic, culture of teamwork and passion to succeed.
At CSC-Sugar/Sugaright over 59% of our employees are of Hispanic descent. Our most tenured employees are of Hispanic descent, including our Brownsville Logistics Center Manager Nain Rodriguez who will celebrate 18 years of service with Sugaright in November and is considered Sugaright’s very first employee.
Fifty percent of our site leadership is of Hispanic heritage, demonstrating pride in performance and value for their teams and customers. Hispanic employees work in functions from logistics & trading, to information technology to key operational positions in the refineries like: quality assurance, customer service, human resources, safety, engineering and site/plant leadership. These employees bring life and professional experiences from Puerto Rico, Columbia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Brazil making us stronger organizationally in the process.
We are grateful for the richness of the diversity that our employees and business partners claiming Hispanic heritage bring to the company.
